A Book for Carers
Lean on Me: Cancer through a Carer's Eyes, a book written by Lorraine Kember, is about her husband's battle with mesothelioma (asbestos related cancer) and her emotional journey as she cares for him. It includes helpful information on topics such as: cancer pain management, symptom control, palliative care, quality of life and coping with grief.

Carer Respite Centres
A network of carer respite centres has been established across Australia.  Ph: 1800 059 059

Carer Resource Centres
The Commonwealth Government funds a carer resource centre in the capital city of each State and Territory to advise on help and assistance for carers.  Ph: 1800 242 636

Carer Allowances and Payments - Centrelink
Carer allowances are available from Centrelink for people who care at home for someone who has a disability, is frail aged, or chronically ill. There is no income or assets test.  Carer payments are available from Centrelink for carers who are unable to support themselves through work because of the demands of their carer role.  Payments are means tested.  Ph: 13 27 17
