National

Australian Consumer and Competition Commission
The national consumer watchdog.

Australian Consumer Law
From 1 January 2011, Australia will have one national law for fair trading and consumer protection - the Australian Consumer Law. Australian consumers and businesses will have the same rights and obligations wherever they are in Australia.

Australian Consumers Association
Better known as the publishers of Choice Magazine.

Australian Direct Marketing Association
The Australian Direct Marketing Association (ADMA) has a Consumer Help section, which includes a Do Not Mail service to have your name and contact details removed from marketing lists used by ADMA members.

Australian Human Rights Commission
The Australian Human Rights Commission investigates complaints about discrimination because of race, sex or disability.

Commonwealth Ombudsman
The Commonwealth Ombudsman considers and investigates complaints from people who believe they have been treated unfairly or unreasonably by a Commonwealth Government department or agency.

Financial Ombudsman Service
The Financial Ombudsman Service fairly and independently resolves disputes between consumers and member Financial Services Providers. Membership is open to any Financial Services Provider carrying on business in Australia. It covers financial services disputes including banking, credit, loans, general insurance, life insurance, financial planning, investments, stock broking, managed funds and pooled superannuation trusts.

MoneySmart
MoneySmart is the Australian Securities and Investments Commission's consumer website with lots of financial tips and safety checks.

MoneySmart - How to Complain
If you have a dispute with a business or person who provided you with goods or services, find out the right way to proceed with the complaint.

MoneySmart - Search ASIC's Lists
You can check basic facts about the people, companies or schemes you are thinking of dealing with, before you get financial advice, hand over your money for an investment, get a loan or credit or buy financial products. ASIC's databases can tell you if these people or companies are registered or licensed.

Private Health Insurance Ombudsman
The main role of the Ombudsman is to provide private health insurance members with an independent service for health insurance problems and enquiries.

Legal advice and fact sheets for consumers in NSW in relation to credit, debt and banking.

Energy & Water Ombudsman
The Energy and Water Ombudsman provides an independent way of resolving complaints
for customers of electricity, gas, and larger water providers in NSW.

NSW Fair Trading
NSW Fair Trading is the NSW consumer protection agency.

NSW Ombudsman
The NSW Ombudsman investigates and reports on complaints about the conduct of NSW agencies and their employees, including both government and some non-government agencies.


Northern Territory

Consumer Affairs
Consumer Affairs is a division of the Department of Justice, and aims to promote and regulate responsible business and industry association conduct through administration of a regulatory system that protects community interests.

Northern Territory Ombudsman
The Northern Territory Ombudsman receives complaints from members of the public who feel they have been treated unfairly or inappropriately by Northern Territory government agencies, statutory authorities or local government or community councils.


Queensland

Office of Fair Trading
The Office of Fair Trading promotes the existence of a fair and ethical marketplace within the community.

Queensland Ombudsman
The Queensland Ombudsman makes sure that Queensland's public agencies - that is, government departments and bodies and councils (local governments) do the right thing by people.


South Australia

Office of Consumer and Business Affairs
The Office of Consumer and Business Affairs regulates defined business activities and maintains business and civil records for South Australia.  Among other things the website has sections for Consumer Advice, Making a Complaint, Product Safety, Residential Tenancies and Scams.

South Australian Ombudsman
The South Australian Ombudsman investigates complaints against South Australian government and local government agencies and conducts freedom of information reviews.


Tasmania

Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading
Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading provides advice and information to the public and business operators on matters affecting the interests of consumers.  Potential breaches of legislation administered by the Office are investigated and product safety standards are enforced.

Tasmanian Ombudsman
The Tasmanian Ombudsman enquires into and investigates complaints against Tasmanian government departments, councils and certain public authorities.


Victoria

Consumer Affairs Victoria
Within the overall mandate of the Department of Justice, the vision of Consumer Affairs Victoria is for a confident and informed Victorian marketplace distinguished by ethical trading and consumer protection.

Financial and Consumer Rights Council
The Financial and Consumer Rights Council (FCRC) is a non-profit, membership-based organisation which works to ensure that all people, particularly low income and vulnerable consumers, have access to fair treatment as consumers in the market place.

Victorian Ombudsman
The primary function of the Victorian Ombudsman is to investigate complaints from aggrieved persons against Government administration.


Western Australia

Department of Commerce - Consumer Protection
Consumer Protection promotes fair tradingĀ and protecting the rights of consumers and businesses in Western Australia.

Western Australian Ombudsman
The Western Australian Ombudsman is an independent and impartial person who investigates complaints about Western Australian government departments, statutory authorities, local governments and the Western Australia Police Service.
